Just a couple things...

1. Only 4 days till the class!!! Should be awesome! Cant wait, good group of gals!

2. This will be the end of Roxsey on this particular blog! I have created a new one, to go along with my NEW WEBSITE!!! Which is not up yet, we are aiming for the new year! Awesome, awesome! So here is the new blogsite for Roxsey..

BEGINNERS PHOTO WORKSHOP OPEN TO ALL WOMEN!

I went back and forth with this one...leave it for high school girls or open to ALL women. I had so many requests for me to open up to all ladies, that I did! Capping it at 15 still, but will have a cool prize for one lucky person if I fill the class up! Look at the bottom post for details on the workshop and you can register by clicking the button to the right. This is going to be such a fun class! I can't wait! Again, this is for beginners. We will be learning the basics of your DSLR camera (no point and shoots please.) I have one extra camera that I can loan out if you let me know BEFORE you register. Just to make sure I haven't lent it out already. You will learn ISO, aperture/F-stops, and shutter speed. We will also be putting our skills to use the second half of the day with a photo shoot with some great models! Any questions, email me or comment!

Beginners Photography Workshops for Girls!

Okay, time for some fun stuff! I will be teaching a one day workshop on beginning photography just for girls 15-21! Cost is $95 and will be held at Homestead Farms in Lynden on December 29th from 9:30-4:00. You must have a DSLR (no point and shoot) and bring with you to class. I do have a couple extra cameras but you must let me know BEFORE you register so I don't lend them to someone else. The first half of the day we will go over the basics ISO, aperture/F-stops, shutter speed, we are going to get you out of point and shoot mode! The second half of the day we will be putting our new skills to work with a photo shoot. We will be practicing on real people! This is going to be such a fun class, so register fast as I am capping the class at 15 students. Lunch will also be served. Seriously, I look at these photo's and think back to my high school photo's. Oh dear, they were so butt ugly. I must find one to show. I am pretty sure I was sporting a rolled bang and some white hoisery. Good thing this young gal has nothing to worry about. She wont cringe when she has to look back 20 years later, like I do. Such a pretty girl who was so fun to photograph. Enjoy!

Last week I did a shoot for some dear friends of mine. I went to high school with both of them and then got back in touch when my daughter was going through some major headaches. Dr Dan, our chiropractor, was a HUGE help and pretty much cured her of them. Unfortunately they are moving back to Cali and will be hugely missed by us! Who will I ever find to replace him! Well, I just got home a couple hours ago from helping my friend Sheila at an afternoon wedding. I wasn't even sure if this wedding was going to happen. The groom, Harvey, was hit by a car while riding his bike a few days ago. He was really bruised and beat up, and I could tell he was hurting. But the wedding was very sweet and touching. More than once I hid behind my camera to hide my tears. I cant imagine almost losing my fiancee days before our wedding. So I haven't gone through all the pictures, but here are just a couple for now.

Engagements and Weddings

I am fortunate enough to be shooting 4 (yes 4!!) weddings this summer! So very excited, because this is where I would like my specialty to be! This year will be all about the portfolio building more than the $$. So this leads me to my smokin' hot deal!! Even though I am shooting the weddings, I am not doing any engagement photo's for these folks. And I really need some engagement photos for my website and portfolio. Soooooo.....here it is.

$100 bucks for a session (2-3 hours) with location changes and a disk. Whatcom County only please, unless you want to pay for travel time that can be arranged. First come, first serve. Only catch is I get to use your pictures for my portfolio and any advertising! Who wouldn't want their fancy pictures on a website??! Jamie and her new little joy!!

I know I have said it before, but I will say it again.... one of the things I like so much about photography is meeting new people. I did not know Jamie or her family before hand or know anything about them. She had received this photo shoot as a gift from her dear friend Sara. So Jamie gave me an address to meet her at and said her family had a beautiful house we could shoot at. Usually, I like to scout out places before I take pictures there, but the flip side of that is going into a new challenge and thinking fast about what we should do. Especially with a newborn. So anyway, beautiful was an understatement for the house. It was gorgeous! It is what I imagine my ideal house to be! Here are some pictures of the day!

Not sure why, but I like this one, even though part of his face was cut off. Just reminds me of how bobbily the little baby heads are!

Picture above is another one of my favorites. Little pumpkin only tolerated me for about 15 minutes and he was done. Here, mama Jamie was taking a break with him to get him to stop fussing. These types of candids are my favorite.

Time to move down to the beach.. maybe the little pumpkin will like the fresh air!

One of the things I love about this photo business is the people I meet. I think just about everybody that I have photographed, I have created a friendship with. Today I finally met Sara. We have been emailing eachother about the photo shoot for a couple months, trying to find the right time for her little Baker to get his pictures done. All the while keeping myself updated through her blog about her adorable little guy. I felt like I had known her for years by the time I showed up at her door today. Sara is amazing. She is very smiley and has great energy. She is an amazing mom who's love for her son is tremendous. But really, what's not to love about this little guy, he is absolutely adorable and so laid back. He was very patient with me today! Here are a few pictures of some of the cutest people ever!

This will be the 3rd time I have done pictures for Mylissa. Her kids are soo super cute and they were very willing to pose for me! Also Mylissa just got married to Geoff so we had to take some new family photo's! This family was a breeze to photograph, Mylissa is always smiling and laughing and Geoff was laid back and willing to pose for me, kind of a funny guy too. Here are some snaps of the day!

Just an update on the website. It is slowly coming along. Mostly because I am learning how to work the program. Apparently it is easy enough for a 1st grader to use. Hmmm. I am not sure about that. So I have finally got more information on there! Prices, pictures, contact info. Still working on the about me page. Every time I write something, I think it sounds silly and I erase it. I will get there though. I will be sending an email out soon to customers about scheduling dates. I know I have received lots of emails from people about scheduling but I keep telling people to wait because of the weather. No one looks fantastic with puffy parka's and a pained expression on their face because of the cold! And trust me, no one likes a cranky photographer! But it is March, which hopefully means the weather is going to start to get decent again. So to my peeps out there, start thinking of what will work for you. I am going to take no more than 2 sessions a week. This is so I can focus on shoots and editing and to make up for any rescheduling because of the wonderful Washington weather. The weather has been less than desirable for me. I am itching to go on a little picture adventure...pack my camera, my ipod and drive until I find some interesting place to capture on film. But....I have my little one to accompany me so we had to make it a park adventure. I thought why not let him learn how to use the camera. So I geared him up with my old Canon Rebel. I know, scary, I let my 3 year old play with a not so cheap camera. You gotta learn sometime though. At least my kids do. The last shot is from my 3 year old. Camera is still a bit heavy for him, hence my not having a head.

3. Bring lots of changes of clothes. For example, dressy, cute, simple, for different looks.

5. Have fun helping each other with hair and makeup

6. Then get some awesome, beautiful pictures of yourselves and as a group!

We had been holed up in our house for days because of the weather and there was just a glint of sunshine out.
